Brilliant recruiter Steve Jobs

Former CEO of Apple John Scully explained why Steve Jobs was a brilliant recruiter.

Steve Jobs never restrained himself. According to John Scully, the former CEO of Apple and Pepsi, that’s what made him so adept at finding talent.

“The best recruiter I’ve ever met was Steve Jobs,” John said, talking to Business Insider. “He did not set boundaries for the talents he was looking for, and did not conduct typical interviews.”

Scully said Jobs was successful thanks to his belief in the mission of Apple.

“He felt – what he does is incredible and important for the whole world,” Scully said. “So why not get the best?”

Scully knows for sure what he’s talking about, because Jobs has persuaded him to leave his post as CEO of Pepsi and move to Apple. Scully told Business Insider editor-in-chief Alison Shontel that Jobs interested him with the only question: “Do you want to trade sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to go with me and change the world?”

According to Scully, Jobs searched and shamelessly enticed the best in the field of technology and business and did not allow random failures to knock him out of the way.

“It did not always work, but the truth is that he did not stop and continued to hunt for the best talent,” Sally said.

For Jobs the ability to passionately convey his faith in Apple, and his lack of remorse – was decisive. Scully, who now ranks as chairman of the startup RXAdvance, claims that recruitment is a skill that is acquired with time and experience.

“These are the things that come only with experience,” Scully said. “You have to learn how to recruit a team, you need to learn how to work with other people, and you need to learn how to achieve great results with this team.”
